This cheese board is a stylish homage to the winegrowers’ festivals which are celebrated throughout Switzerland’s traditional wine-growing regions every autumn. These wine barrels made of Emmentaler AOP cheese and filled with grapes are not only a tasty treat, but also really eye-catching – not to mention the perfect accompaniment for fine wines.
To create the wine barrel, first hollow out a large apple. Next use toothpicks to attach long slices of Emmentaler AOP all the way round as the wooden staves. Tie a long stem of chives around the middle of the barrel. The wine barrel is now ready to be filled with grapes.
Make three such wine barrels, then arrange them on a rustic wooden platter and decorate them with grissini breadsticks, rosemary and thyme. Use a handful of grapes to fill the gaps. All that’s missing now are wine glasses and wine – and that’s it: you can enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of a winegrowers’ festival in the comfort of your own home.
